Description
Whole cloves are aromatic flower buds harvested from the clove tree (Syzygium aromaticum), native to the Maluku Islands in Indonesia. Typically dark brown and nail-shaped with a characteristic strong, warm, and slightly sweet flavor, they are commonly used in cooking, baking, and as a spice in various cuisines. Cloves are also valued for their essential oil, which contains eugenol, a compound with antiseptic and anti-inflammatory properties. When used whole, cloves can infuse dishes with their potent aroma, but they are often removed before serving as they can be tough to chew.
